“ …helped me immensely to cope with the stresses of life and considerably improved my poor circulation.”

Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing art that has its origins in India, China and Egypt and was “rediscovered” in the Western world about 100 years ago. It works on the whole person, body, mind and emotions to help the body’s own natural healing process to take place. It also complements other types of healthcare.
Reflexologists believe that different points, or reflexes, on the feet or hands, correspond to each organ, gland and structure of the body. Stimulating the reflexes can have a beneficial effect on corresponding areas of the body. This causes physiological changes to take place as the body’s own healing potential is stimulated.
Reflexology has the capability of bringing about a state of deep relaxation. When the body is relaxed and stress is reduced, healing is possible. Tension is released, muscles cease to contract, blood vessels relax. This allows the body systems, including the excretory systems and lymphatic system, to function efficiently, eliminating toxins and impurities. In addition stagnant energy in the body is dissipated, allowing a balanced energy flow once more.
What happens when you come for reflexology with Vivien?
On your first visit (please allow up to 1hr 30mins) a short medical and lifestyle history is taken. Confidentiality is respected at all times. Reflexology is an easy treatment to receive and you need remove only your shoes and socks. You will lie comfortably on a gently reclining chair or on a couch. By use of the hands pressure is systematically applied to the feet (or hands). There may be fleeting discomfort in some places, but the overall experience is usually very pleasant and soothing. It is not unusual for people to close their eyes and 'drift off' during treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
At the end of the session an aftercare/treatment plan will be discussed and will be tailored to individual needs; subsequent sessions will last for about 60 minutes. Some people make improvements after just a few weeks but others can take longer. It depends on the individual and their progress. After you have completed a course of reflexology you may find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
What benefits can be expected?
Reflexologists do not diagnose, claim to cure a condition or prescribe. People react in different ways to a treatment. Usually they feel very relaxed, sometimes energised; they may notice that they start to feel a greater sense of wellbeing with more optimism. Some notice improved sleep patterns. It seems to help people manage the stresses of daily living. Reflexology works with the whole person and it can relieve symptoms related to many ailments, including the following:
- Stress related conditions
- Hormonal imbalances
- Headaches
- Digestive conditions
- Respiratory disorders
- Circulatory disorders
- Sleep disorders
... and many more
How will I feel after a treatment?
A reflexology treatment has a different effect on each individual. Most people note a sense of relaxation, calmness and wellbeing, while others are energised and feel more alert. Sometimes people report a feeling of lethargy, slight headache, or tearfulness. This is usually transitory and is part of the healing process.
